Five Secrets about Heather Killough-Walden’s Books
(that she’s going to let you in on right now)
1. The sexiest character I’ve ever written exists, not in one of my romance novels, but in the romantic thriller: Hell Bent. The connection between the assassin, Jack Thane, and the woman he loves, Annabelle Drake, has been heralded by Hell Bent readers as the most intense they’ve ever read.
2. The Lost Angels series, the Kings series, and the Big Bad Wolf series take place in the same universe (or rather, multiverse). There are crossovers between the books left as Easter Eggs for my loyal readers. Perhaps the largest of these is the crossover that takes place between the introductory novella, Always Angel, and the later books in the Kings series. Unfortunately, many people begin the Lost Angels series with Avenger’s Angel – so they miss out on this super sweet treat.
3. The relationships in my series are not always perfect. In fact, one couple in particular is having marriage difficulties… I will let you guess which couple it is. I did this to show that a completely “alpha” male is not necessarily what a woman wants, much less needs. A marriage is a fifty-fifty split of effort and understanding. If one partner is giving less or requiring more, the scales will tip. This is not a death sentence for a relationship, but it’s definitely a red flag. Work needs to be done.
4. Each of the women who become Queens in my The Kings series has some sort of characteristic which makes her more “real.” One is prone to anxiety attacks. Another is a cutter. One is on the autism spectrum – can you tell which one? The women in my books are real. Because my readers are real. We wear scars, inside and out – but my hope is that by writing this relatable reality into my books, we can begin to wear those scars proudly.
5. There might be 14 books in The Kings series… crazier things have happened. (secret grin)
