Happy Release Day Melissa!!
"Tempting Tristan: Tristan Brewer" is now available!!
Hi Melissa! Excited to have you as a guest for this year’s Audiobook Lovin!
I am so excited to be a part of this year’s Audiobook Lovin. Thank you for including me!
For those that may not know you, why don’t we start by having you tell us a little bit about yourself and how you became an author?
I am a mother of six, a chocoholic and I am married to my very own hunky hero. We have six kids, and although I knew I wanted to write for many years, I didn’t start writing until my youngest started kindergarten and from that day on, I have written full time.
You are known for your sexy and heartwarming contemporary romances and new adult… of all the sub-genre underneath the romance umbrella, what draws you to write contemporary romance?
I love writing about real-life issues. Life isn’t always easy or perfect and I like to embrace that in my romance stories. I am also in love with love 😊 My children make fun of me and my hubby because we’re always hugging and saying “I love you.” Love is so broad of a subject, it’s comprised of glances, touches, thoughts, feelings, and so much more than just intimacy. I love to write my characters’ stories. To show their growth, and embrace their journeys.
You also write ‘sweet romance’ under your pen name, Addison Cole. What made you decide to use a pen name vs. writing them as Melissa?
So many readers recognize my Melissa Foster name and associate it with steamy romance. I wanted to build a brand surrounding a sweet pen name so that when readers are looking for a sweet with heat romance, they will know that Addison Cole will deliver! I also never want to confuse my readers, so transparency is primary. That’s why each book clearly states “Melissa Foster writing as Addison Cole.”
Is there a sub-genre of romance that you’d like to write in but have yet?
I have written M/M, M/F, F/F and have bisexual characters who will soon get their own books. I’m driven by characters not genres or trends. I have a few ideas brewing, I just need to find the time to write them.
Are you a Plotter or Pantser and how does that affect your writing?
I’m a true Panster. I run from outlines like avoiding the plague. But lately, I’ve been trying to give myself a few sentences of plot points to see how it works for me. The pantser in me hates this 😊
You have a steady number of releases each month… how do you keep up the pace? Where do the stories come from?
The amount of characters that talk to me on a daily is scary! I have characters from past series that still need their love stories told, I have series that I have already planned to create, and new stories that pop up into my mind daily, or as I am writing in a certain “world,” like my Whiskey “world.” I just keep writing. I actually have been trying to slow down my pace but it never happens, and when you factor in my 5-6 German releases per year, and 10-12 Addison Cole releases, it’s crazy! But I truly LOVE what I do.
We often hear (or read on social media) the authors speak about going off to their “writing cave” …. Do you have one and if so, what does it look like? What are your must have items?
I do have a writing cave. I like small spaces, so when we built our house, I had them put French doors up to create a smaller space, and left the rest of my office as a “thinking” space with a chaise lounge. My office has a treadmill writing desk and a bike writing desk, as well as two seated desks (one for my PC and one for my Mac). The walls are covered in inspirational, happy pictures, and I have an inspiration wall that’s loaded with pictures of hot guys pulled from magazines (my husband helps keep it stocked #HesTheBest). Must haves are coffee (must taste like candy), loud music (country or pop), and usually some fuel in the form of chocolate, or ice cream, and sometimes healthy stuff….maybe.
As of today you currently have 71 audiobooks listed on Audible, what made you decide to turn your books into audiobooks?
To hear my story come to life is like nothing I’ve ever experienced, and with the rise in readers who prefer audiobooks, it just made sense.
Are you involved in the casting of your audiobooks and if so how do you go about selecting your narrators?
For years I have worked with the same male narrators, BJ Harrison and Paul Woodson, who are phenomenal. I have just branched out to include dual narration to my upcoming releases, and I have been very hands on about selecting narrators. I’m thrilled to have A-list narrators like Andi Arndt, Sebastian York, Ava Ericson, Zachary Weber, Jacob Morgan, and Teddy Hamilton working on my upcoming releases.
What information/guidance do you provide to the narrator?
We provide them with characterization, meaning how we want each character portrayed, the setting of the story, and the overall feel we’re going for.
Do you listen to your audiobooks after they are finished? Why or why not.
I do when I have time, but I have a team who reviews them for accuracy and quality control, allowing me to continue writing and listen at my leisure.
What do you love/like about audiobooks?
I love that readers can listen while doing other things. For me, they’re great when I’m exercising or driving. It’s so fun to get lost in the worlds and stories, then come back to reality and feel like I’ve taken a vacation.
If you could pick one person (male or female) to narrator your life who would it be and why?
Unfortunately, there are so many voices in my head, I’d need a conglomerate of narrators. The crazy beach girl, tough mama and businesswoman, chaotic writer, and girl who loves to sing and dance but can’t carry a tune across the street.
What is next for you and your series?
Next up is ANYTHING FOR LOVE, the second book in my Bradens and Montgomery series, releasing June 27th. It’s a fun and deeply emotional story about an quirky, fun, erotic romance writer who lost everyone in her family, and the reclusive man sent to help her fix up her secluded inn. He, too, has a painful past, but true love has a way of healing the worst of wounds. The first in the series, EMBRACING HER HEART, is now available in ebook and print, and will be releasing in audio on May 30th.
Thank you Melissa for joining us today and being part of the Audiobook Lovin Series! Looking forward to your upcoming releases!!!
