Book Review: Improper Relations by Juliana Ross

Improper Relations
By Juliana Ross

Synopsis:

When Hannah's caught watching her late husband's cousin debauch the maid in the library, she's mortified--but also intrigued. An unpaid companion to his aunt, she's used to being ignored.

The black sheep of the family, Leo has nothing but his good looks and noble birth to recommend him. Hannah ought to be appalled at what she's witnessed, but there's something about Leo that draws her to him.

When Leo claims he can prove that women can feel desire as passionately as men, Hannah is incredulous. Her own experiences have been uninspiring. Yet she can't bring herself to refuse his audacious proposal when he offers to tutor her in the art of lovemaking. As the tantalizing, wicked lessons continue, she begins to fear she's losing not just her inhibitions, but her heart as well. The poorest of relations, she has nothing to offer Leo but herself. Will it be enough when their erotic education ends?

Viviana's Review:

Okay, so the saying, “Don’t judge a book by its cover” doesn’t apply here! In this case, Hot Cover = Hot Book! A historical erotica novella that doesn’t leave you wanting for anything! The characters grow/develop as the story progresses. The author does a fantastic job of taking you back in time but doesn’t saturate the story with language or behavior that makes you lose sight of what is important, the characters and the story itself.

As with most historical romances, you have a “not so experienced” heroine, who has several misguided ideas (of which mostly are all wrong) about what a relationships (not just the physical kind but emotional as well) truly involves, what her position in life should be and that she shouldn’t be afraid or ashamed of wanting more.  Our hero is the devilish good looking, acting out, often misunderstood man, who will not conform to being told what he should or should not be doing.  The synopsis does a really good job of giving you an idea of what this story is about, so I won’t bore you with a recap.

So as this is an erotica historical romance and we’ve touch based on the ‘historical’ aspect and the romance gives you an idea of where the story is heading, let’s talk about the steamy scenes that put this in the “erotica” genre. One of the reasons I truly liked this erotica novella is that the verbiage isn’t just thrown out there as a “filler”. It serves it purpose and provides a sense of realism to the event in place. Remember when I said “not so experienced”, well, there are lessons involved! This can be tricky as the author wants to provide the reader with those hot and sexy scenes without it reading like a text book (i.e. place hand here and move in circles there). Well, this wasn’t your traditional Sex. Ed. and THANK YOU for that! Whew! I was a bit concerned at the beginning when I read the “educational end” in the synopsis! The relationship may begin with Leo wanting to “teach” Hannah that there is more to “love making” than just submitting (no not in the BDSM tradition of submitting, but rather in the ‘just lie there and endure the act’ of submitting) to the man, both learn that they must submit to what they feel.

A quick and sexy read!!!
