Once Burned
(A Night Prince Novel #1)
By Jeaniene Frost

Synopsis:

She's a mortal with dark powers...

After a tragic accident scarred her body and destroyed her dreams, Leila never imagined that the worst was still to come: terrifying powers that let her channel electricity and learn a person's darkest secrets through a single touch. Leila is doomed to a life of solitude...until creatures of the night kidnap her, forcing her to reach out with a telepathic distress call to the world's most infamous vampire...

He's the Prince of Night...

Vlad Tepesh inspired the greatest vampire legend of all—but whatever you do, don't call him Dracula. Vlad's ability to control fire makes him one of the most feared vampires in existence, but his enemies have found a new weapon against him—a beautiful mortal with powers to match his own. When Vlad and Leila meet, however, passion ignites between them, threatening to consume them both. It will take everything that they are to stop an enemy intent on bringing them down in flames.

Viviana's Review:

I really did like it. Though I felt that I was missing something…… A few of my friends who have read the book LOVED it! Then I realized what it was…. I haven’t read the “Night Huntress World” series! Apparently, the Vlad from “Night Huntress” has a wicked sense of humor. I soooo would have wanted to see that in this book. That would have definitely made me LOVE this book.
I had a little bit of trouble connecting to Leila, our heroine at first. But as I got to know her, I liked her. I fell for Vlad immediately and I had a feeling I would.

One of the things Leila said, really made me like her:
“My body is the only thing that’s truly mine, so I don’t give it away as though it’s worthless.”

Here's another moment that stood out to me:

“I can give you honesty, monogamy, and more passion than you can stand, but not love. That emotion died in me long ago, as I suspect you already know.”

I took a deep breath, fighting a twinge that made no sense because he was right. I had guessed that about him.

“Good,” I replied in a steady voice. “I was worried that you’d turn into one of those obsessed, emo movie vampires, and that would be embarrassing for both of us.”

His laughter rang out before changing into something rougher and infinitely more sensual. Emerald overtook his gaze once again.

“Enough talk,” he muttered, and lowered his head.

Humorous, insightful and Vlad is down right sexy! Again, you get a few glimpses of his humor, but no where near how is character is in the other series. To be honest, I think I would have enjoyed/liked the book better if it was written from Vlad's POV. I believe we would have gotten a much more interesting and fuller story.

Ah the ending. Yup, leaves you totally hanging and wanting more!! Atlas, we must patiently wait. "Twice Tempted" book 2 in the series is scheduled to be released on March 19, 2013 (per Jeaniene's website).

Speaking of Jeannie's website.... check it out as there is lots of goodies from info to wallpapers!

  1. I felt the same way about this book. I enjoyed the Cat and Bones series but just feel like this one was missing something. I loved Vlad in the the other books and hope that we see more of his character in the second of this series.
