This week's question is:
Confess your blogger sins! Is there anything as a newbie blogger that you've done, that as you gained more experience you were like — oops?

I was extremely lucky to have a great mentor when I began blogging and with my background in business, I had lots of knowledge regarding copyrights (specifically regarding images), however, I was still a newbie and my confession is that I was soooooo excited when I began to receive requests for reviews, that I accepted a handful without researching the author and/or book. I was honest with them that I wouldn't be able to review the books for a time and they were fine with it. I'm almost caught up with them all. Now I only accept reviews I know I can complete within a decent turnaround time.
How does this work? First you leave your name here on this post, (using the linky tools — keep scrolling!) then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post (easiest way is to just grab the code under the #FF picture and put it in your post) and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them “hi” in their comments (on the post that has the #FF image). You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you!
What sets this Hop apart from others, is our Feature. Each week we will showcase a Featured Blogger, from all different genres and areas. Who is our Feature today? Find out below. Just remember it is required, if you participate, to follow our Features and you must follow the hosts (Parajunkee & Alison Can Read) as a courtesy. How do you follow someone? Well, if you have a preference, state it in your #FF post. A lot of blogs are transitioning to WordPress in which they do not have the luxury of GFC, so an RSS subscription is appreciated or if you choose an email subscription. If you don’t have GFC please state in your post how you would like to be followed.
All features are chosen randomly to be the feature. They are not chosen by content or name.
I try to keep my review list limited to 3 months, but its so hard when there are so many potentially amazing books and not nearly enough time to read them all.

My FF
reading everyone's confessions so far on this FF is making me realize I am making a TON of mistakes. lol Maybe I shouldn't go after those galleys of books that are already published because I'm new and already starting to fall behind! Yikes!

Nice to meet you!
Requested reviews are my biggest problem because I feel bad for turning them down, but then I think about how it doesn't help the author / publisher if I agree and can't give it the proper attention it deserves.

Have a great weekend!
That still is one of my oopsies! My blog is still new (one month old) so I'm happy to be getting anything at all. But I've made some really awesome connections and read some pretty good books in the process. For now, I'm not too bogged down :)

It is so exciting to get review requests, even if the books are ones you would normally be drawn to. I have to control myself when I am requesting from Netgalley.
ReplyDeleteI am so insanely jealous that you had a mentor. I wish I had one, I made so many small mistakes and really had no idea what I was doing. But Thankfully I am a fast learner.
ReplyDeleteNew follower here-
ReplyDeleteI've noticed many who started out took on more than they could chew at the start. I'm so glad you have it all ironed out now and your blog is beautiful. Have a terrific weekend.
