I'm extremely excited to welcome Hildie to Enchantress of Books! Welcome! Hildie had the opportunity to interview Captain John McClain and has shared it with us. Fascinating!!
I sit in a clearing not far from a gurgling creek and listen to the songs of birds. I yank on my long skirts and wonder how women here manage to do so much day to day with the heavy clothing. But it’s the 1800s and I have to fit in.
He removes his hat and the sun reflects off his shiny chocolate brown hair. When he nears, I am drawn to the grey eyes that watch me back with interest. His lips which can only be described as kissable curve into a lazy smile and I stifle a soft moan.
I invite him to join me on the fallen tree and he does, lowering all six foot something of himself beside me.
He smells of outdoors and enticement. Prone to being solemn, he waits for me to begin to talk his eyes trained on my face. Of course I can’t think of anything, so i pull a piece of paper from a pocket in my skirts. Good thing I’m prepared for these moments. My heroes are hot!
Hildie: “Thank you for joining me John. I know you keep busy on the ranch, it was nice of you to come.”
John: “Did I have a choice?” He smiles to let me know he’s not angry.
Hildie: “No I suppose you didn't. Tell me how has life been since I left you here in Texas?”
John: “It’s good. The days go by quickly, there’s much work to do. Mirasol is a large ranch and I've hired a several more ranch hands.”
Hildie: “Can you tell me how things are between you and Mae?”
John: A soft smile lifts the corners of his mouth. “Can I talk about it without ruining the story”
Hildie: “Go ahead give us a glimpse.”
John: “Mae and I are still very much in love. I can’t imagine a day without her. I’m thankful for her and the children.”
Hildie: “I see you still have Lasitor.” I look at his horse, a huge black stallion who is grazing nearby.
John: “Yes he’s not an old horse, so I’ll have him for a bit yet.”
Hildie: “I was a bit hard on your in the story but I’m still going to ask. What scene was the hardest for you?”
John: He lowers his head in thought. “Probably when I couldn't allow Mae near me because I felt unworthy.”
Hildie: “Sorry about that.”
John shrugs.
Hildie: “Who do you think I should write about next?”
John: “I hope Joshua. He’s a good man who deserves a story of his own.”
Hildie: “I’ll consider it.”
John: “I better get back. Can’t disappear for long. Mae will gather the hands for a search party.”
Hildie: “It was nice to talk to you again John.”
He places his hat on his head and touches the tip. “I’ll always make time for you ma’am.”
So there you have it. I have to start plotting Joshua’s book. Hopefully the man will meet me and tell me his story.

Blurb:
Captain John McClain finds himself on the wrong end of a shotgun when attempting to find his child. Heading west to find the mother of his son and the outlaw who shot him, John is forced to escort an enticing woman whose lifestyle goes against every one of his moral standards, yet she calls to every part of him.
Heading west to meet the dying father she never knew, and possibly starting a new life, Mae Hawkins didn’t expect the added complication of traveling with the one man she always loved.
When they're joined along the road by a minister and his wife, things get beyond complicated for John and Mae who awaken to the lesson that sometimes differences are more imagined than real in this unforgettable journey.
