Hi Everyone!! I'm so excited to have author Sara Humphreys with us today!!
Lions, Tigers, and Dragons. Oh My!
By Sara Humphreys
Every time I write a book or develop a new series, I start with that two word phrase because the possibilities are limitless.
When I first created the Amoveo universe, I had envisioned it with the ten different animal clans and wrote the books based on that premise. After writing the seventh installment, the novella, UNBOUND, I started to wonder how many more stories there were to tell about this unique society of shapeshifters. You would think that with lions, tigers, panthers, cheetahs, wolves, coyotes, foxes, falcons, bears, and eagles I might never run out of adventures. Maybe I wouldn’t but I didn’t want the series to get stale, either.
One lazy Sunday afternoon, I was flipping around the television channels and I came across the movie Dragonheart. There was one scene when the dragon is kind of skulking around in his cave, doing his best to avoid the humans who have hunted his kind, and it got me thinking…
What if there had been a clan of shapeshifting dragons?
My initial response to my own question was (Writers are weird. We tend to talk to ourselves. A lot.) …No way! Wouldn’t they have been mentioned in previous books?
Well…what if the dragons had been betrayed by some of the Amoveo? Perhaps there had been a battle over a woman? Wait a minute! Hold the presses. What if he was cursed?
I love a tortured hero.
Okay, so if there are dragons, then where have they been all this time? How in the world do you conceal one massive, flying fire-breathing dragon, let alone many?
Simple. You don’t find a dragon unless they want to be found. They’ve been hibernating deep within the earth waiting for a world that might be more welcoming of their kind.
The Dragon Clan and the Amoveo are cousins. They’re related but not exactly the same. Their gifts differ and unlike the Amoveo, who can shift at any time, the dragons can only shift under the cover of darkness. Direct sunlight forces them to change back into their human form.
Dragons are known for their fiery dispositions and the inability to control their tempers.
To put it simply, they are hot heads.
And hot.
Of course.
UNDISCOVERED was the most challenging book that I’ve ever written. Weaving together these two worlds was crazy hard but I think it’s my best book to date and even though I’m not supposed to choose favorites but it’s my fave. I’m sure the fact that the hero is modeled after my crush, Norman Reedus, probably has nothing to do with that at all.
Thank you for coming with me on this journey and I hope you’ll enjoy this first adventure in the Amoveo Rising series.
Thank you again Sara for being with us today!!
