Audiobook Review: Keeper by Amy Daws

Keeper
(Harris Brothers Series #3)
by Amy Daws
Narrated by Will M. Watt and Charlotte Cole

Blurb:
They were best friends until they became roommates.

Booker Harris has spent the last several years pushing himself to become the best goalkeeper in the Championship League. Tired of living in the shadows of his headline-splashing brothers, he has finally carved a path of his own.

As a child, Poppy McAdams was content in her own little make-believe world, until the boy next door with dimples and pained eyes came barreling into her makeshift fort demanding all her attention.

Best friends for most of their lives, everything changes when Poppy abruptly leaves London for University.

Now she is back, and gone is the awkward girl from Booker's youth. She has been replaced by a stunning woman with secrets.

Secrets that Booker is desperate to know.

Sharing a bedroom wall with your best friend from childhood quickly turns to anything but sweet and innocent.

Viviana's Review:
The blurb held promise and I was excited to listen to the audio as I've never read anything from Amy nor listened to Will or Charlotte. I was also looking forward to the duet narration and bonus, British accents!

I really wished I could give this a stellar review. Unfortunately, while the premise was a good one (best friends to lovers trope) it was poorly executed. As readers we go into the story knowing that Poppy and Booker are BFFs. The author takes EVERY POSSIBLE opportunity to tell us via the characters of that very fact! OMG, I almost yelled at my kindle "Are you kidding me! Dude, we KNOW she's your BFF.... stop telling!" And that's the problem right there.... we are told about their friendship over and over again and its not only distracting but complete overkill.

I ended up increasing the speed to 1.5x (so sorry for the narrators but it couldn't be helped) to speed the book along due to the repetitive dialogue and slow progression.

Narrator's Review: This is the first time I've listened to Will Watt and Charlotte Cole. This is a duet and I enjoyed their performance. There were a few times where I felt it was a bit over the top (i.e. Poppy sing song answering). Both have great voices and provide the characters their own personalities and tones.

Overall, it was okay. I had the opportunity to checkout a new to me author and narrators. Did it make me curious enough to check out the previous books (KEEPER is the third book in the series), not really. I know, I know it sounds bad, but with so many audiobooks out there.... I'm concerned that the previous stories will have the same/similar issues. I will say.... I'm a bit curious about the fourth brother. I'll check it out.

Rating: 2 Stars - It was ok.
